Syracuse's Molly Guzik and Daniella Guyette were added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Thursday, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced.
Â
The award annually honors the top male and female lacrosse players in the United States, with a selection committee comprised of collegiate coaches. Guzik and Guyette join teammates Coco Vandiver and Emma Muchnick on the watch list.
Â
Guzik has been the offensive catalyst for the Orange, scoring a goal in all 11 games this season. She has tallied 27 goals and scored three or more goals four times. Guzik had a career day against then-No. 4 Northwestern, scoring six goals to lead Syracuse to a 9-6 victory. The performance earned her USA Lacrosse Magazine Division I Player of the Week and ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Â
Guyette has been a major factor in the Orange's eight-game winning streak, holding opponents to just 7.8 goals per game during the stretch. The senior netminder allowed six goals or fewer in five consecutive games. Against then-No. 8 Yale, Guyette made 10 saves and posted a .667 save percentage in a 6-5 victory. She followed with another strong outing against No. 19 Virginia, making five saves on 10 shots in another 6-5 win. The performances earned her ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Guyette is currently fourth nationally in goals against average at 7.1 all while having played the top strength of schedule in the nation.
Â
The two were among 13 additions announced Thursday. The field will be narrowed to 25 nominees on April 16 before being cut to five in early May. The winners will be honored at the Tewaaraton Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 28. Guzik, Guyette and the rest of the Orange take on the No. 23 Pittsburgh Panthers at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday at 10 a.m. Get your tickets now at cuse.com/feature/lacrosse-tickets
