SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's soccer team will host No. 18 North Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. at SU Soccer Stadium. The match is the last regular season home match for the Orange and will serve as Senior Day for the graduating members of the team.
Â
Syracuse fell on the road to Wake Forest on Thursday on a golden goal in the second overtime period. Stephanie Skilton kept the Orange in the game with her two goals, including one late in regulation that knotted up the score.
Â
North Carolina picked up a 3-0 win at Pittsburgh on Thursday to move into a tie for fifth place in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings.
Â
Five members of the Orange will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony, including Annette Cappellino, Maddie Iozzi, Rebecca Pongetti, Sierra Shafer and Stephanie Skilton.
Â
Cappellino joined the Orange in 2015 as a transfer. She came in for Courtney Brosnan at Fairfield earlier this season and helped the team secure a shutout. The Penfield, N.Y. native is a public health major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamic.
Â
Iozzi has played in every game for the Orange the last four seasons. This season, she has recorded an assist and one goal. That goal was the game-winner against Albany on Aug. 28. She has played a crucial part on the Syracuse backline that has kept 20 opponents scoreless in her time. The Ajax, Ontario native is a health and physical education major.
Â
Pongetti also came to the Orange as a transfer in 2014. She has played in all but one game this season in the midfield. The Hamilton, Ontario native is a sport management major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamic.
Â
Shafer is a goalkeeper for the Orange. She has been an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving as the vice president of career development. The Chittenango, N.Y. native is a public relations major.
Â
Skilton has left her mark on the Syracuse record books, tied for the third leading goal-scorer in Orange history with 26 goals. She was only the eighth player in program history to score a hat trick in 2013. She leads the team with five goals this season, including a golden goal at Cornell. The Auckland, New Zealand native is a Health and Exercise Science major.
Â
The match will be broadcast by Time Warner Cable Sports and can be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
