Orange Open ACC Tournament Against Pitt

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Defending champion Syracuse hosts Pittsburgh in the first round of the 2016 ACC Men's Soccer Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange are the No. 5 seed in the tournament, while the Panthers are the No. 12 seed.

Admission to Wednesday's match is $5 for adults. Youth under the age of 18 and students with a valid ID from any ACC institution will be admitted free of charge. Fans can also watch the match on ACC Network Extra.

ORANGE IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT
Syracuse (10-3-3) earned the No. 5 seed in the tournament after posting a 3-2-3 mark in conference play. The Orange will be playing in their third ACC Tournament. Syracuse has won one tournament title and has a 5-1 all-time record in ACC Tournament play.

Last season, the Orange entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed. Syracuse beat NC State at home and advanced past No. 2 seed North Carolina by winning a penalty kick shootout in Chapel Hill. The Orange then defeated No. 3 seed Clemson and No. 4 seed Notre Dame on the road to claim its first ACC Tournament crown.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Pittsburgh posted a 2-12-3 regular-season record in 2016 and a 0-5-2 mark in ACC play. Luca Mellor and Matt Venanze lead the Panthers' offense. Both have scored three goals this season. Mikal Outcalt has played the majority of minutes in goal for Pittsburgh. He has a 1.20 goals-against average and a .815 save percentage.

THE SERIES
Wednesday's match will be the 21st all-time meeting between the two schools. Both teams have won eight of the previous 20 contests, while four games have ended in a tie. Last season, the Orange defeated the Panthers, 5-0, at the SU Soccer Stadium.

The winner of the Syracuse-Pittsburgh match advances to the ACC Tournament quarterfinals where it will face Clemson in South Carolina on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
