SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's hockey team (3-6-3) will travel to Grand Forks, N.D. for a weekend series against the No. 7 University of North Dakota (6-4-4) on Nov. 25 and 26. Both games are set for a 3:07 p.m. (EST) start time.
Â
The Orange hosted the Minnesota Whitecaps last weekend for two exhibition games. The Whitecaps defeated Syracuse, 3-1, in the first game held at War Memorial Arena. Allie Munroe scored the lone goal for the Orange in that contest. On Saturday, the two teams played to a 2-2 draw. Heather Schwarz netted both goals for 'Cuse in the game.
Â
Alysha Burriss (3 goals, 6 assists) and Stephanie Grossi (5 goals, 4 assists) lead Syracuse with nine points each this season. Grossi and Schwarz are tied for the most goals on the team with five so far. Jessica Sibley is the Syracuse assist-leader with seven on the season. Abbey Miller has started all but one game in net for the Orange this season. She has posted a 1.79 goals against average and 245 saves in her 11 games.
Â
North Dakota is coming off an undefeated weekend with back-to-back 2-2 ties against No. 2 Minnesota. The Fighting Hawks moved up to No. 7 in the USCHO.com poll this week. North Dakota is led by Amy Menke with 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists) and the leading goal scorer is Emma Nuutinen with six. Â
Â
Syracuse and North Dakota have shared two common opponents this season in Bemidji State and Mercyhurst. The Hawks defeated Bemidji, 5-2 and 2-0, in a home-and-away series in October. The Orange opened the season with the Beavers and lost both games, 2-1 and 3-0. UND opened its season at Mercyhurst, winning the first game, 3-1, and tying in the second, 1-1. Mercyhurst was Syracuse's last official opponent on Nov. 11 and 12. The Orange grabbed a 4-2 win against Lakers in the first game, but lost the second, 4-3.
Â
This will be the fifth and sixth meeting between the two teams in series history with the series split 2-2. The Orange and the Hawks have met twice the past two seasons and have split the games each year. In the first matchup on Jan. 10, 2015 the Hawks topped the Orange, 4-1, but 'Cuse followed up with a 2-1 win the next day. Last season the teams played in Syracuse. Again, UND won the first game 3-0 but Syracuse won the next 5-2. The Hawks were ranked No. 9 at the time of those games.
Â
A live stream (premium) will be provided by North Dakota along with live stats and live audio (free) for the two games. Â
