Syracuse hosts Michigan State on Wednesday night
ESTERO, Fla. – The No. 11/18 Syracuse women's basketball team suffered a 108-84 loss against No. 18/17 DePaul in the Gulf Coast Showcase third-place contest on Sunday night.
"They made a lot of shots, first of all," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "We came out flat, we came out with no energy. We can't play that way. We have got to do a better job of coming out with energy, ready to play."
DePaul (5-1) stormed out to a 10-2 advantage in the opening two minutes of the contest and never looked back. The Blue Demons knocked down 19 3-point field goals en route to 108 points scored on the night. It marked the most points Syracuse (4-3) had surrendered in a single game since the 1988 NCAA Tournament.
Senior guard Alexis Peterson scored a team-high 22 points and dished out four assists on the night. Peterson now ranks eighth in program history with 1,362 points scored in her collegiate career.
Senior center Briana Day added 14 points and eight rebounds, while redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes tallied 13 points and nine rebounds against DePaul. Sophomore forward Julia Chandler knocked down four 3-point field goals en route to a career-high 12 points.
Syracuse returns to the friendly confines of the Carrier Dome for the first time in the past five contests when it hosts No. 24/19 Michigan State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, as well.
Wednesday's game will be Women in Business Day, as well. An hour-long networking session will be held in Club 44 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. In addition, the first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative professional pen. For more information, click here.
