SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's hockey team (4-7-4, 3-2-2 CHA) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period against Rochester Institute of Technology (3-15-1, 1-5-1 CHA), but ended the game in a 2-2 tie on Friday night at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
In the first period, Allie Munroe fired in a shot on passes from Emily Costales and Stephanie Grossi as the Orange worked the puck around the Tiger defense. It was her first goal of the season and it put the Orange up, 1-0.
Five minutes later, Lindsay Eastwood blasted a pass into traffic and Kelli Rowswell put the puck in the net to put Syracuse ahead, 2-0. It was the freshman's second goal of the season.
Neither team scored in the second period, but RIT came out in the third period looking to even up the score. With two goals from Kendall Cornine, the Tigers did just that, forcing overtime. Both teams failed to score in the extra period, resulting in a tie.
Syracuse and RIT will play again on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester.
