Orange En Route To Yale; Return Home Sunday

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse women's tennis team entered the ITA Tennis rankings at No. 65 this week and will travel to take on Yale as its first test as a ranked team. The Orange are scheduled to take on the Bulldogs at noon on Friday, February 12 and will return home on Sunday at Drumlins at 11 a.m. for a match against St. John's.
Syracuse (4-0) is seeking its best start since 2009 when the Orange started out the season 7-0. The Orange will look for their fifth consecutive win of the season when the team takes on Yale (0-4).
Freshmen Gabriela Knutson, Dina Hegab and Maria Tritou have been impressive in singles play, combining for a 11-1 record thus far this season. Both Knutson and Hegab are a perfect 4-0 to start off their collegiate campaigns. Tritou is 3-1 that includes three consecutive wins.
Junior Valeria Salazar has also been a key component for the Orange, utilizing a perfect 3-0 record in singles play, helping guide Syracuse to its 4-0 record. Graduate student Anna Shkudun is the lone Orange player with a ITA singles ranking, receiving a national rank of 44 with a 3-1 record.
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs are coming off losses against No. 58 Columbia and No. 43 Princeton, falling 4-1 and 4-0, respectively. Friday's match against Syracuse will be Yale's first home action of the season.
Yale has played a ranked opponent in every game this season, including its opener against No. 5 North Carolina in which the Bulldogs lost 4-0. The Bulldogs lost their second match to No. 52 Marshall 4-3.
RETURNING HOME
Syracuse returns to Drumlins Country Club on Sunday for a match against St. John's at 11 a.m. There will be free pizza offered to fans.
