CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Behind a career-high 20 points from Tyler Lydon and a 21-4 second half run, the Syracuse (18-8, 8-5) picked up its fifth-straight win and eighth victory in nine games by way of a 75-61 triumph at Boston College (7-18, 0-12 ACC) at The Conte Forum on Sunday.
The Orange broke open a tight game by connecting on 8-of-10 3-pointers in the second half and in the process swept the season series with the Eagles.
In addition to Lydon's 20 points and six rebounds, the 'Cuse got double-figure performances from Michael Gbinije (17), Malachi Richardson (15) and Trevor Cooney (12) in the win. For Gbinije, it continued his streak of scoring in double figures in ever game this season, a stretch that has reached 26 contests.
Syracuse used a 13-0 run early the first half to go from three points down to a 10-point lead with 9:41 to play in the frame. The Orange's defense played a crucial role in the early going as 11 of Syracuse's first-21 points came off eight Eagles' turnovers.
Boston College battled back in the half behind 20 points by Matt Milon in the period. The Eagles' freshman went 6-of-7 from the floor, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc to pull back within one in the waning seconds of the half. However, Cooney provided a buzzer-beating layup to allow the Orange to take a three-point lead into the locker room at 35-32.
The Eagles continued to claw away at the Syracuse advantage, even taking the lead in the second half with 15:43 to go after a pair of Dennis Clifford free throws, but the Orange took another big 21-4 run over the next six minutes to open up a 60-45 lead. The convincing stretch was highlighted by 16 points from Lydon and Richardson. Three-pointers accounted for 15-of-21 points in the run.
After a Milon corner three finally halted the 'Cuse run, Gbinije answered on the ensuing possession with a triple of his own to keep the lead at 15.
Milon and Clifford clawed BC back within single digits once again with just inside of six minutes to go at 65-56, but the Orange used its balanced attack to put the game out of reach, with a Cooney triple providing the dagger with four minutes to go.
Twenty three of Syracuse's 75 points would come off 13 Boston College turnovers in the game, while 'Cuse turned it over just eight times.
Milon, whose previous career high was 16 points, finished the day with a game-high 25.
The Orange are back on the road to square off with Louisville on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
