SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The No. 14/15 Syracuse University women's basketball team is looking to clinch its first trip to the national semifinals when it plays Tennessee in the 2016 NCAA Tournament regional finals on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. EST at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

In its last game, Syracuse knocked off No. 3/2 South Carolina, 80-72, in the 2016 NCAA Tournament regional semifinals on March 25. In its first Sweet 16 appearance in program history, the Orange outscored the Gamecocks by 14 points in the final 10 minutes of play en route to an eight-point win.

Tennessee enters Sunday's contest with a 22-13 overall record. The Lady Volunteers defeated Ohio State to advance to the regional finals, 78-62, on March 25. It marks the program's 28th Elite Eight appearance in its storied history. Redshirt sophomore center Mercedes Russell had a career-best 25 points.

Under head coach Quentin Hillsman, the Orange have defeated at least one opponent ranked in the top 25 of the Associated Press Poll every season since 2007-08. This season, the club has knocked off five nationally-ranked foes, which is a program record.

Syracuse's last victory against a nationally-ranked foe was an 80-72 victory against No. 3/2 South Carolina on March 25. It matched the highest-ranked opponent the Orange have ever defeated. The Orange defeated No. 2/2 Connecticut, 62-59, at Manley Field House on Jan. 2, 1996.

Junior guard Alexis Peterson made history herself by breaking the program record for points in a NCAA Tournament game with 26 points. She broke her own record that she set against South Carolina last season.

Senior guard Cornelia Fondren made a huge block on the other end, transitioning to a lay-up from junior center Briana Day, securing the Orange's victory. Syracuse finished the game out by a score of 80-72, handing the Gamecocks their second and final loss of the season.
