Orange Sprinter to Sing National Anthem at Final Four
4/1/2016 12:05:00 PM | Track and Field
Chevis Armstead II will perform in Houston on Saturday
Syracuse freshman hurdler Chevis Armstead II has already shown he can handle the big stage, reaching the ACC Championship Finals in the 60-meter hurdles this season on the track, but on Saturday night he'll be showcasing a different talent on an even bigger stage.
The 'Cuse sprinter is set to perform the national anthem at the Final Four in Houston as part of a group of student-athletes who'll be performing prior to the first national semifinal at NRG Stadium in front of over 76,000 fans.
A native of DeSoto, Texas, which is little more than three hours north of Houston, Armstead has already showed off his vocal talents for the Orange faithful, singing the national anthem prior to the Orange's contest with Wisconsin this season.
Armstead reached the ACC Championships in the 60-meter hurdles by posting the sixth-best semifinal time (8.06 seconds) this season. He also competed in the 4x400-meter relay for the Orange as well, taking 12th as the team won the program's first ACC Championship, and first conference indoor title since 1992.
The Syracuse track and field teams are beginning their outdoor campaigns this weekend, with the sprinters at the Pepsi Florida Relays and a group of distance runners at the Stanford Invitational.
Oklahoma and Villanova open up the Final Four on Saturday with tip time scheduled for 5:09 p.m. (Central). The Syracuse-North Carolina game follows, approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
