THE GAME
- The eighth-ranked Orange takes on No. 11 North Carolina in the first round.
- The game will be televised on ESPNU with Eamon McEaney (pxp), Quint Kessenich (analyst) and Paul Carcaterra (analyst) on the call. It's also available on ESPN3. TK99 will broadcast the game as the official radio home of the Orange, with Brian Higgins (pxp) and Kyle Fetterly (color) calling the action. WAER will also be carrying the game.
- Syracuse enters the game 8-4 after defeating Binghamton, 13-5 in the Carrier Dome last Wednesday.
THE NORTH CAROLINA SERIESÂ
-Â The Orange and Tar Heels will meet up for the 22nd time, and second time this season, with the Orange controlling the all-time series 14-7, and having won the earlier matchup this year, 13-7.
-Â The two teams first met on May 20, 1981 in the NCAA Quarterfinals. North Carolina won 13-6. u
-Â Syracuse has won two-straight against the Tar Heels, including last year's ACC Semifinals match-up, 9-8.
ORANGE IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT
- The Orange enter their third ACC Tournament having reached the finals in each of its first two, and having won last year's for the first time in program history.
-Â Last year's third-seeded Syracuse team defeated the two-seed, North Carolina, in the semifinals, 9-8, before taking down fourth-seeded Duke in the finals by a score of 15-14.
-Â This year's Orange are the fourth-seed in the tournament, thus pitting them against the top-seeded Tar Heels.
ALL-ACC HONORS
- The Orange had four players represented on the All-ACC Team, which was announced on Wednesday.
-Â Dylan Donahue, Brandon Mullins, Nick Mariano and Sergio Salcido were named to the 18-player squad.
-Â The players were voted on by the league's five head coaches.
WILLIAMS AMONG NATIONAL LEADERSÂ
-Â Ben Williams ranks inside the top-10 of two national stat categories. He is 5th in FO winning pct. (.642) and 8th in groundballs per game (6.75).
-Â Dylan Donahue also ranks inside the top-10 of a national stat category, ranking 8th in assists per game with 2.25.
EMO AMONG THE BEST
- The Syracuse man-up offense has been the best in the ACC and one of the best nationally so far this season.
- The Orange rank third nationally, scoring on 53.3 percent of extra-man chances.
- Only Marist and Stony Brook own better marks on the season, with Virginia at 48.6 percent as the next-best ACC team, ranking seventh nationally.
Syracuse will face off with North Carolina at 6 p.m. on Friday, looking to get back to the ACC Championship game.
