TODAY'S GAME
- The eighth seeded Orange face top-seeded Maryland at Brown Stadium in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
- The game will be televised on ESPNU with Mike Corey and Matt Ward on the call. It's also available on ESPN3. TK99 will broadcast the game as the official radio home of the Orange, with Brian Higgins (pxp) and Kyle Fetterly (color) calling the action. WAER will also be carrying the game, with Michael Tricarico, Connor Morrissette and Conor Green calling the action.
- Syracuse enters the game 12-4 after a comeback win over Albany in the first round
THE MARYLAND SERIES
- The Orange and Terrapins have met 16 times in the history of the program, and just five times in the last- 25 years.
- Maryland owns a 10-6 record over the Orange all-time, including a 2-1 mark since head coach John Desko took over in 1999, but Syracuse is 4-3 in NCAA Tournament games against the Terps and 1-1 all time at neutral sites.
- The last meeting was Syracuse's inaugural ACC game, with Maryland winning 16-8 in the Carrier Dome. The last time the teams met in the postseason was in the 2011 NCAA Quarterfinal, with Maryland winning 5-6 in overtime. 'Cuse did beat the Terps in the '09 Quarterfinal before that en route to an 11th title.
LORDS OF THE RING
- Syracuse is on its quest for a 12th NCAA Championship (and 16th national title, including four USILA championships).
- The Orange owns the some of the best marks in NCAA Tournament play by a number of metrics, including most NCAA Championships (11), highest winning percentage (.736), second most wins (68) and fourth most appearances (36).
DESKO IS THE MASTER OF MAY
- Head coach John Desko took over the program in 1999 and has guided the Orange to 17 NCAA Tournaments in his 18 seasons, including five NCAA Championships (2000, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2009).
- Desko's clubs combine for an overall record of 33-11 in NCAA Tournament play, good for a .750 winning percentage, which is the best all-time of any coach who has coached 10 or more games.
- Desko is third all-time with five NCAA Championships, one behind predeccessor Roy Simmons Jr. and fourth all-time with 33 NCAA Tournament wins, one behind Simmons Jr.
NO. 8 SEED SUITS CUSE
- The Orange have been the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament once previously, making rattling off threestraight wins to get to the NCAA title game in 1999 before losing to Virginia in the title game.
- The only seeds Syracuse has a better winning percentage at are No. 1 (.808/21-5), No. 3 (.813/13-3) and No. 4 (.833/5-1).
CUSE IN THE QUARTERS
- Syracise owns a 27-5 record in NCAA Quarterfinal matchups entering Saturday's matchup.
- 'Cuse exited in the quarterfinal round last year in a 16-15 loss to Johns Hopkins, with its last quarterfinal win coming over Yale in 2013 at Byrd Stadium.
- This is the third time Syracuse has played at Brown Stadium in the NCAA Tournament and is 1-1 all-time, most recently defeating Princeton 7-5 in the 1999 Tournament. 'Cuse also played in the '85 title game at that location.
TEN BELOW
- Syracuse has won 41-straight games when holding opponents to under 10 goals in a game.
- In 2016, the Orange has held Siena (5), Albany (7 and 9), Army (8), St. John's (4), Hobart (6), North Carolina (7 x2), Binghamton (5), Duke (8) and Colgate (3) to that mark.
- The last time Syracuse failed to win when keeping its foe to single digits was on April 28, 2012, when the Orange fell at Notre Dame, 8-6.
PACKING 'EM IN
- The Syracuse men's lacrosse team once again led the nation in home attendance, as the only school to average more than 4,000 fans per game.
- Syracuse drew 36,120 for its nine home dates, with the Orange averaging 4,013. uNo other school is averaged more than 3,819 fans for home games or had a total home attendance of more than 34,374.
- The Orange has finished first or second in average home attendance every year since the NCAA began tracking it in 2010.
- Since the NCAA started sponsoring men's lacrosse in 1971, Syracuse owns eight of the top 20 singleseason total average attendance figures.
IN THE CLEAR
- Syracuse is currently clearing at 91%, percentage points above 2015's percentage, which ranked third nationally.
- After starting the season as the top team in the country for clearing, Syracuse currently ranks seventh.
- According to research done by the Virginia Athletic Media Relations Office, there have been 21 seasons in which a Division I team has cleared the ball at 90 percent or better, including three by SU.
MOLLOY AMONG NATIONS BEST
- Evan Molloy hasn't reached the 60-percent mark of his team's minutes yet, thus not allowing him to qualify for NCAA rankings, however if he were he'd be near the top.
- His .576 save percentage would rank sixth nationally, while his 7.08 goals against average would be third.
