
New Orange Join Softball Squad

Syracuse softball coach Mike Bosch has announced the addition of five newcomers to the Orange softball squad. The influx of talent includes three transfers and two high school performers.
"We are excited to add these young ladies to our roster," said Bosch. Â "They exemplify what we are looking for in our program, as each not only have great athletic ability, but each have demonstrated excellence off the field as well. We could not be happier that each of these players chose to be Orange!"
Baylee Douglass, a transfer from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, provides the Orange with an experienced pitcher. This past spring, Douglass was 18-12 overall and made 30 starts to go with a school-record 46 appearances. She ranked 16th in saves (5) and her earned-run-average of 1.85 ranked 40th in Division I. She was the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2015 and a second-team All-OVC selection. Douglass earned dean's list recognition in three of her four semesters at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Douglass was a three-time all-state pitcher at Centralia High School (Missouri). She plans on majoring in child and family studies at Syracuse.
Faith Cain, an infielder, comes to Syracuse after two years at Highland Community College (Kan.). She was a two-time, All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference selection and earned second-team (2015) and first-team (2016)Â All-NJCAA Region VI. Highland earned spots in the NJCAA Division II Tournament both seasons. Cain helped the Scotties to a 41-8 record in 2015. She hit .424 with 11 home runs and 55 RBI as a freshman. This past spring she hit .369 with 10 homers and 42 RBI while Highland produced a 43-12 overall record. Cain was a pitcher-first baseman at Millard West High School (Neb.) and earned first-team all-state in 2010. She plans on studying broadcasting and digital journalism in Syracuse's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Riley Didier was a standout outfielder at Forsyth County Day High School (N.C.). A three-sport letterwinner, she was the school's 2014 Sportswoman of the Year. Didier was first-team all-conference three times, the team MVP in 2013, and played on the 2015 state championship team. Forsyth County Day made the state semifinals three straight years. She received a 2016 Wendy's Heisman School Award, presented to seniors with a minimum grade-point-average of 3.0 who are also proven role models and leaders in their community. A four-year National Honor Society member, Didier has been accepted into Syracuse's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Jessica Heese is an outfielder who spent the past two seasons playing for Southern Illinois. This past year she batted .287, ranked second on the club in RBI (27) and extra-base hits (21) and led the team in doubles (14). Southern Illinois was 33-19 in 2016. Heese's freshman year was highlighted by nine starts in 28 games. She earned spots on the Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll in each of her two campaigns with the Salukis. Â She was a two-time, first-team All-State performer at North Platte High School (Missouri). Heese, who will be a junior eligibility-wise, plans to major in physical education at Syracuse.
Abby Thibodeau earned first-team All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) recognition after two seasons at Paul VI Catholic High School (Va.), and was the 2015 WCAC Player of the Year. She played her senior season at Lake Braddock Secondary School was named to the Washington Post All-Metro Second Team. The softball team's most valuable player, she posted a 0.32 earned-run-average. Thibodeau has earned a Maxwell School of Citizenship Scholarship. A national honor society member, she plans on majoring in business at Syracuse.
The five newcomers join freshmen Alexa Romero (Eaglecrest High School, Colo.) and Toni Martin (Raymore-Peculiar High School, Missouri), each of whom signed National Letters of Intent last Fall.
