Gbinije Joins Richardson In NBA Draft

Syracuse's Michael Gbinije joined teammate Malachi Richardson in the NBA after being selected 49th overall by the Detriot Pistons. Richardson was taken 22nd by the Charlotte Hornets.
Gbinije capped off his Syracuse career by helping the Orange to the NCAA Final Four. Gbinije started all 37 games and led all NCAA Division I players in minutes played (1,403). The versatile guard scored in double digits in all 37 games and led Syracuse with a 17.5 points per game average. He topped 20 points in a game 13 times in 2015-16.
He scored a career-best 34 points in a home-court victory against NC State and surpassed 1,000 career points in the same outing.
He was a first team All-ACC pick and a member of the conference's all-defensive team in his final year of collegiate eligibility.
Gbinije began his collegiate career at Duke and spent one year with the Blue Devils before transferring to Syracuse. After sitting out one season as a transfer student, he logged three campaigns with the Orange. He averaged 37.92 minutes per game in 2015-16, the second-best mark in program history.
Syracuse has had two-or-more players selected in the NBA Draft in five of the last six years.
