
Orange Move on to Semifinals at IRA Regatta

Syracuse just misses out on spots in A/B semifinals in first and second varsity eight
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The No. 12 Syracuse University men's rowing team raced for the first time on Friday at the 2016 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta. Syracuse will be back on the water in the C/D semifinals on Saturday morning.
The Orange first varsity eight crew just missed out on the A/B semifinals. Syracuse covered the 2,000-meter course at Mercer Lake in 5:52.700 in the first repechage, less than five seconds behind first-place Northeastern. The crew will compete in the C/D semifinals on Saturday at either 9:50 or 10 a.m.
In the first repechage of the second varsity eight, the Orange finished in fourth place, missing out on a spot in the A/B semifinals by less than three seconds. Syracuse finished in 6:06.430, a four-second improvement from its morning heat. The second varsity eight boat will return to the water at 10:20 a.m. on Sunday for the third-level final.
The Orange third varsity eight crew placed fifth in the first repechage, recording a time of 6:10.010. Syracuse made a five-second improvement from its morning heat. The third varsity eight will be back in action on Sunday in the third-level final at 10:10 a.m.
Tickets for the IRA Championship Regatta are $10 per day, per person, and fans under 18 years old are free. Parking is $10 per day, as well. If purchasing at the event, cash is the only the form of payment accepted.
For those not attending, live video and results will be available all three days from the national championship regatta.
