Fresh off his 15th place finish at the U.S. Olympic Trials, Freddie Crittenden III will take on international competition Saturday, when the rising senior competes in the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) U-23 Championships.
The Utica, Michigan native will compete in San Salvador, El Salvador on Saturday, July 16 at 5:55 p.m.
Crittenden, who wrapped up his collegiate season with a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championship in the 110-meter hurdles and subsequently earned USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors, was selected by USATF to compete in the event, which features the top-two athletes in each individual event who are between the ages of 20 and 22 and will not turn 23 in 2016.
"I am just happy to represent my country again on an international level," Crittenden said at the time of his selection. "It is a privilege to wear those bold USA letters and I thank God for this opportunity. I'm especially excited to be going with my best friend from high school, Aarib Mallett, who is the Big Ten 110-meter hurdles champ from Iowa."
Crittenden's stellar season began in the indoor campaign, when he won the 60-meter hurdles at the ACC Championships en route to Syracuse claiming the men's team title for the first time since joining the league. It was also the first conference indoor championship since 1992 for the Orange. Crittenden then went on to be the runner up in the event at the NCAA Championships, before transitioning successfully to the outdoor distance and winning another ACC title.
