Misses gold by under 0.001 seconds
It came down to a photo finish, and Freddie Crittenden III was determined to have been edged by less than 0.001 seconds at the North American, Central American, Caribbean Under-23 Championships in the 110-meter hurdles for gold, but the Orange rising senior turned in a silver medal performance of 13.53 seconds.
Crittenden was nosed by William Barnes who raced to a 13.53 seconds mark as well, but earning the win after a photo finish review in San Salvador, El Salvador.
The silver at the NACAC U-23 Championships continues strong performances in big meets for the Utica, Michigan native. He most recently finished 15th at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 110-meter hurdles.
Crittenden, who wrapped up his collegiate season with a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championship in the 110-meter hurdles and subsequently earned USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors, was selected by USATF to compete in the event, which featured the top-two athletes in each individual event who are between the ages of 20 and 22 and will not turn 23 in 2016 from each respective nation.
Crittenden's stellar season began in the indoor campaign, when he won the 60-meter hurdles at the ACC Championships en route to Syracuse claiming the men's team title for the first time since joining the league. It was also the first conference indoor championship since 1992 for the Orange. Crittenden then went on to be the runner up in the event at the NCAA Championships, before transitioning successfully to the outdoor distance and winning another ACC title.
