USA Displays Balance In Exhibition Triumph

LOS ANGELES, California -- Six different players scored in double digits to help Team USA defeat China, 106-57, in an exhibition game at the Staples Center on Sunday. The Americans improved their exhibition-game record to 2-0 with the triumph.
Kevin Durant (Golden State) led the scoring with 19 points. Klay Thompson (Golden State) had 17, DeMar DeRozan (Toronto) added 13, DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento) and DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers) each had 12 and Kyrie Irving (Cleveland) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10.Â
Former Syracuse standout Carmelo Anthony (New York) had a team-best eight rebounds to go with five points and five assists.
Team USA converted 41-of-74 from the field (.554) and accumulated 29 assists at the offensive end. The Americans had a commanding 39-26 rebound advantage. The squad's defense was strong as well, limiting China to 17-of-55 shooting (.309) and forcing 20 turnovers.Â
Team USA will square off with China again on July 26 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is leading Team USA. His staff includes Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, Minnesota Timberwolves mentor Tom Thibodeau and former Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams. Syracuse assistant coach Mike Hopkins is a court coach for the Americans.

"Today, it was all about getting better," said Anthony. "We still have a ways to go before we get to Rio. We are still trying to get used to guys, get used to each other. We've only been together a little over a week, so it's going to take some time but we need games like this to get comfortable."
