
Waiters Turns To Heat

Former Syracuse standout Dion Waiters has signed a one-year contract with the Miami Heat, according to the Associated Press.Â
Waiters, who spent the past season-and-a-half with the Oklahoma City Thunder, was a free agent.Â
He played two seasons at Syracuse. After averaging 6.6 points per game as a freshman, his production jumped to 12.6 as a sophomore. Although he did not start a game, he helped the Orange to a 34-3 overall record and a 17-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. He was voted the league's sixth man of the year and a was a third-team, All-BIG EAST Conference selection. The Orange reached the NCAA Tournament's "Elite Eight" in 2011-12.
Waiters was picked fourth overall by Cleveland in the 2012 NBA Draft. He spent two-plus seasons with the Cavaliers and averaged a career-best 15.9 points-per-game in 2013-14. Midway through the next season, Waiters was part of a three-way trade that sent him to Oklahoma City, J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert from New York to Cleveland, and Lance Thomas from the Cavs to the Knicks. The Knicks also received Alex Kirk and Lou Amundson from Cleveland.
In 2015-16, Waiters averaged 9.8 points per game with the Thunder.
