Team USA (4-0) held off a late charge by Serbia (1-3) and remained unbeaten in preliminary play at the Rio Olympics with a 94-91 victory.
Six Americans scored in double figures, including Kyrie Irving (15), DeAndre Jordan (13), Carmelo Anthony (12), Kevin Durant (12), and Paul George (12). Team USA posted 27 assists on 27 baskets.
"Can we play better? I hope," said USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski. "I think we can. I think we played hard. They played really well.
"We won a game against a team playing great. We have to move on and keep learning."Â
The Americans had jumped out to a 9-0 lead and led by as many as 18 in the game. Serbia chipped away at the advantage and actually had the ball and a chance to tie the contest in the final seconds.
"Tonight you got to take your hat off to them," said Anthony, who led Syracuse to the 2003 NCAA Championship. "They played extremely well. They play hard, they play tough, they made shots, they ran their offense fluently. But you know what? We'll take the win. That's all that matters.
Team USA won its 48th straight international tournament game. The Americans close out Pool Play against France (3-1) on Sunday, August 14.
