SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Looking to extend its undefeated record into the second weekend of play, the Syracuse women's soccer team will defend the SU Soccer Stadium on Friday and Sunday against in-state foes Army West Point (0-2-0) and Albany (1-1-0).

The Orange picked up a win and a tie in the opening weekend, marking the first time since 2012 that Syracuse has gone unbeaten in the first two matches of the season.

Alana O'Neill was voted the Most Valuable Player by the team for the week after her two-goal performance against Delaware. The junior was able to double her career goal total with the two scores and she secured the first win of 2016 for the Orange.

Sheridan Street got the 2016 season going with a goal 45 seconds into the first game of the season at Colgate. After an equalizer from the Raiders before halftime, the score would not change and the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

Army West Point comes into the match with losses against Albany and Seton Hall in the first week of play. The Black Knights were picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League and return Clare Shea, who was second on the team in points last season. The last time Syracuse faced the Black Knights was Sept. 9, 2012 at West Point and the Orange suffered a 1-0 loss.

Albany bested Army West Point on Aug. 19 at West Point, but suffered a 3-0 loss to St. John's on Aug. 21. The Great Danes are coming off its winningest season in school history with 11 wins in 2015. Albany was picked to win the America East in the preseason with six first-place votes. Syracuse and Albany faced off last season in the New York Challenge Cup hosted at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange staged a come-from-behind victory with a game-winning goal from Stephanie Skilton in the 84th minute.
