Syracuse Hosts Buffalo To Conclude Non-Conference Play

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After three straight matches on the road, the Syracuse women's soccer team (6-1-1) will return home to take on Buffalo (3-2-2) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15 at the SU Soccer Stadium.

The Orange are currently on a three-game winning streak and have a 3-1-0 record at home this season. Thursday's match will be the last non-conference game of the season with Syracuse beginning play in the Atlantic Coast Conference on Sunday against No.19/20 Notre Dame.

'Cuse went on the road last week and picked up two crucial shutout wins to improve to 6-1-1 on the 2016 season. Jessica Vigna scored her first goal of the season against Rhode Island in the 89th minute on a penalty kick. On Sunday Stephanie Skilton, Alana O'Neill and Sydney Brackett found the back of the net to give Syracuse a 3-0 victory against Fairfield.

Syracuse is led in scoring by Skilton and O'Neill with three goals each this season. Eva Gordon has added two goals and five other Syracuse players have scored this season. Taylor Bennett leads the team with three assists and Brackett has two.

Goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan has four shutouts this season, tying the most of any season for the junior in her career. Brosnan and the Orange backline are allowing only 0.50 goals against in 2016 and holding opponents to only 6.8 shots per game. Â

Buffalo has a five-game unbeaten streak and have not lost since the opening week. Overall, the Bulls are 3-2-2 on the season and 0-0-1 on the road. They recorded two wins last weekend against Navy and Canisius, scoring six total goals on the weekend. Buffalo has scored three or more goals in four games this season. The Bulls are led in scoring by Carissima Cutrona with six goals on the season.

Thursday's game will serve as Military Appreciation Night with individuals from the Wounded Warrior Project participating in the coin toss at the beginning of the match. The first 100 fans through the gates will receive a free hot dog.
