Syracuse hosts Boston College, NC State
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange volleyball team (1-9, 0-0 ACC) will return to the Women's Building this weekend to kick off the ACC season against Boston College (5-5, 0-0 ACC) and NC State (7-6, 0-0 ACC). Friday's match with the Eagles is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra, while Sunday's match against the Wolfpack is set for 1 p.m. Admission to both matches is free to the public.
The Orange and BC went head-to-head in the Women's Building last September when 'Cuse pulled off the win in four sets (24-26, 25-21, 25-10, 25-18). Syracuse prevailed in the second meeting of 2015, sweeping the Eagles in three on their home court. Friday's game marks the 38th time that the pair will meet on the court, as the first meeting was in 1982.
Boston College finished the non-conference season with an even 5-5 record. The Eagles swept their own Boston College Tournament, defeating Rider, Fairleigh Dickinson and UMass Lowell, but fell the weekend prior at the Beantown Challenge to Georgia and New Hampshire in five sets apiece.
NC State also fell victim to 'Cuse last season, as the November match was stretched to four sets (25-17, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16) before the Orange came away with the win. Sunday's game marks the ninth series meeting between the two teams, as the first was in 1983.
The Wolfpack were 7-5 at the conclusion of the non-conference schedule. NC State most recently fell to UNCW in four after defeating Campbell in four sets as well. The Wolfpack were 2-1 at their own invitational, as they took down Delaware and SMU, but lost to High Point.
'Cuse closed out the non-conference season 1-9, gaining knowledge about what they need to alter as a team to take the ACC conference season by storm.
