
Sweet Start: Orange Take Down Eagles in Four

Gorelina, Weaver tally double-digit kills
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange volleyball team opened Atlantic Coast Conference play with a four set victory against Boston College (25-18, 25-12, 15-25, 25-21) at the Women's Building on Friday night.
"That's what we are focusing on," head coach Leonid Yelin said of his team's discipline. "I am just sitting in practice and praying for them to get faster, mature and use it because they have skills and they have abilities and they want to win."
A pair of Orange in sophomore Anastasiya Gorelina and freshman Mackenzie Weaver led all players in kills with 13 and 12, respectively, while tallying six digs each. Sophomore Santita Ebangwese registered seven blocks to lead the Orange (2-9 overall, 1-0 ACC) defense in the win.
In the back court, junior Belle Sand led the effort with 14 digs and six assists.
The Orange jumped out to an 8-1 lead and then capitalized on a second 5-1 run late in the first to close out the game, 25-18, after leading Boston College (5-6, 0-1) throughout the game.
Syracuse started the second game strong, taking a commanding 12-1 lead, en route to a 25-12 win. Boston College rallied to win the third game, 25-15, to force a fourth game.
The Orange outlasted the Eagles in the fourth game, 25-21, after the score was tied six times. The Orange closed out the match with a 7-3 run for a victory in the first ACC match.
The Orange return to the Women's Building on Sunday, Sept. 25 to continue the ACC schedule as they host NC State at 1 p.m.
