Top-Ranked Teams Collide when Orange Face Fighting Irish

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – No. 2 Syracuse puts its eight-game winning streak on the line when it faces No. 3 Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 22. Match time in Notre Dame, Ind. is set for 7 p.m. in what will be a rematch of last year's ACC Tournament final.

The Orange are off to their best start in program history with an 8-0 record and are tied for the top spot in the ACC Atlantic Division with a 2-0 league mark. The Fighting Irish suffered their first loss of the year last weekend against Louisville and enter Friday's match with a 6-1 overall record, 1-1 in league play. SHUTOUT STREAK SNAPPED
Syracuse allowed a goal against Cornell in the 32nd minute. It was the first goal the Orange had allowed in more than 340 minutes of play. Syracuse recorded three consecutive shutouts prior to taking on the Big Red. Overall, the Orange has posted five shutouts in eight matches this season.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH
Notre Dame had its six-match winning streak snapped in a 1-0 loss at Louisville last Friday night and dropped from the top spot in the NCSAA rankings to No. 3. The Fighting Irish have faced three teams ranked in the top 25 this season and have won all three contests.

Friday's match will feature two of the highest scoring offenses in the league. Brandon Aubrey leads Notre Dame with six goals and 13 points, while Jon Gallagher has five goals and 13 points. Chris Hubbard has played every minute in goal for the Fighting Irish. He has four shutouts and a 0.41 goals-against average as well as a .889 save percentage.

THE SERIES
Syracuse and Notre Dame will meet for the 18th time on Friday. The Fighting Irish hold a 12-3-2 advantage in the series. Last season, the squads met on Notre Dame's campus in the finals of the ACC Tournament. The Orange took advantage of a failed clear when Ben Polk scored on an assist from Julian Buescher as Syracuse defeated Notre Dame, 1-0, to win its first ACC Championship.

The Orange will have a week off to prepare for No. 9 North Carolina, which visits the SU Soccer Stadium on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
