SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 3 Syracuse faces another top five opponent when it hosts No. 4 North Carolina at the SU Soccer Stadium on Friday, Sept. 29. Match time for the ACC contest is set for 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Â
The Orange suffered their first loss of the season to No.2 Notre Dame last weekend. Syracuse is now third in the ACC Atlantic Division with a 2-1 league mark and an 8-1 overall record. The Tar Heels have one loss on the season as well, losing 1-0 to Eastern Tennessee State on Sept.13. North Carolina has won three straight since the setback and enters Friday's match with a 7-1 overall mark and a 3-0 record in league play. Fans can watch Friday's match on ACC Network Extra. Live stats will be available on Cuse.com.
Â
HISTORIC START COMES TO AN END
The Orange started the season with eight consecutive wins for the first time program history before the 2-1 loss to Notre Dame last weekend. It marked just the second time this season that Syracuse has allowed two or more goals in match. The Orange have faced two ranked opponents ranked in the top 25 this season, going 1-1 in those matches.

SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina has won three straight after its only loss of the season to East Tennessee State on Sept. 13. The Tar Heels, which boast the highest-scoring offense in the ACC, have scored nine total goals in their last two matches.
Â
North Carolina features a balanced offense as eight different players have scored at least one goal. Nils Bruening has a team-high five goals, while Zach Wright has a team-best 11 points on three goals and five assists. Cam Lindley also has five assists this season. James Pyle has played every minute in goal for the Tar Heels. He has a 0.50 goals-against average and a .840 save percentage.
Â
THE SERIES
Syracuse and North Carolina will meet for the fourth time on Friday. The Tar Heels hold a 2-1 advantage in the overall series. The last time the two opponents faced was in Chapel Hill in the 2015 ACC Tournament quarterfinals. The score was tied at 1-1 after 110 minutes of play, sending the match to a penalty kick shootout. The squads were tied, 3-3, after the first five PKs, meaning the game would be decided in sudden-victory fashion. Liam Callahan scored on his penalty kick, and Warren Marshall's attempt missed as Syracuse advanced and went on to claim its first ACC Championship.
