Mid-year transfer joins Syracuse from Western Kentucky
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Western Kentucky transfer Bryce Holmgren will complete a 20-player 2017 roster for the Orange softball program, announced Friday by head coach Mike Bosch. Holmgren will compete at the utility position and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Hailing from Roland, Iowa, the sophomore spent her first year of collegiate play with the Hilltoppers, ranking second on the team in both hitting (.408) and on-base percentage (.462). Holmgren tied for the team-lead in hits with 29 during the Conference USA season, and was a Conference USA All-Freshman team selection.
A three-sport high school athlete in softball, volleyball and track, Holmgren was a two-time all-state and all-district recipient, as well as a three-time all-conference honoree and two-time offensive MVP selection. Holmgren was a Wendy's High School Heisman State Award recipient as well. She competed for the Iowa Blitz traveling softball squad.
Aside from athletics, Holmgren was involved with Health Occupations Students of America, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club, National Honor Society and Dance Marathon.
Holmgren and the Orange softball squad begin the 2017 slate on the road at the Red and Black Showcase hosted by Georgia. Syracuse will face Eastern Carolina on Friday, Feb. 10 in Athens. The first pitch will be thrown at 10 a.m.
