Syracuse Topped by #15 Irish on the Road

Lydon leads Orange with double-double
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Tyler Lydon dominated the court offensively and defensively and led the Orange with a double-double, but Syracuse came up short on the road at #15 Notre Dame, 84-66, on Saturday afternoon at the Joyce Center. Syracuse is now 11-9 overall and 3-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while the Fighting Irish advanced to 17-3 and 6-1 in the ACC.
Lydon led a trio of double-digit scorers for the Orange with 24 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds to complete the double-double, his fifth of the season.
In his fifth-straight double-digit point game, freshman Tyus Battle tallied 17 points and three boards, while Andrew White III was in double digits for the 19th time this season with 16 points. White III has tallied double-digit numbers in 19-of-20 outings.
DaJuan Coleman saw significant minutes for the Orange for the first time since the matchup with Cornell in December and grabbed seven rebounds and five points.
The Orange scored the first basket, but Notre Dame matched it with a layup and continued on to never give up the lead for the remainder of the game.
Notre Dame used an 8-0 run to establish a 12-point, 26-14, lead in the first half. The Irish continued to push the Orange with a 15-point lead, but White III tallied a 3-pointer to close the gap to nine points, 41-32, at the end of the half.
Lydon converted a dunk to start the second half to bring the game within seven, 41-34. Notre Dame answered with a 9-0 run to go ahead by 16, 50-34.
The Irish continued the push through the end of 40 minutes on the hardwood, closing out the game on top by 18, 84-66.
The Orange return home on Tuesday, Jan. 24 to host Wake Forest for an 8 p.m. tipoff. Tickets can be purchased online at Cuse.com, by phone at 1-888-DOME-TIX and in person at Gate B at the Carrier Dome.
