NEW YORK, N.Y. – After winning its first match of the season on Saturday, the Syracuse women's tennis team lost to Columbia, 6-1, on the road on Sunday afternoon.
"The ladies played with good energy and a lot of heart," head coach Younes Limam said. "Gabriela (Knutson) did a great job finding a way to win her match, and showed a lot of resilience and toughness. Overall, it was a positive weekend. We have grown as a team and saw the things that we need to improve on."
Columbia took the doubles point, winning two of three matches. Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez won their doubles match, 6-1.
In singles, Knutson also claimed a three set victory against her opponent at the top spot. After winning the first set, 6-4, she dropped the second, 6-2. Knutson bounced back in the third with a 7-6 win to claim the point.
The Orange will be back in action on Jan. 28 and 29 at Michigan in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Syracuse will take on Mississippi State on Saturday and then will face the winner or loser of Michigan versus Denver.
