Orange Face 3-0 Setback at NC State
10/14/2017 6:40:00 PM | Women's Soccer
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Syracuse women's soccer team (7-6-2, 2-4-1) faced a 3-0 shutout against NC State (10-4-1, 3-3-1) Saturday afternoon at Dail Soccer Stadium. Senior keeper Courtney Brosnan made five stops in goal for the Orange while the Wolfpack recorded 16 total shots in the game.
"I don't think we played our best soccer today," said head coach Phil Wheddon. "We didn't string passes together when needed and didn't create enough chances on offense. I give full credit to Coach Santoro on his well-prepared NC State team. They executed when given the chance and caused us many problems."
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Ricarda Walkling put the Wolfpack on the board in the 35 minute of action with her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Tziarra King. King then posted a pair of second half goals to bring the final score to 3-0, NC State. The Orange tallied four shots in the outing, each coming from a different Syracuse athlete.
OF NOTE
The Orange have shown resiliency this season, posting a 4-0-1 mark when coming off a loss. They look to improve that record with a win over their next opponent, No. 14 Virginia.
LOOKING AHEAD
"We are at the stage of the season where points really matter," said Wheddon. "We have to get something out of the games this weekend starting with Virginia. We intend to give our very best effort and to come out and beat a very strong Virginia team."
UP NEXT
Syracuse returns to SU Soccer Stadium for its final two home games of the season when the Orange host Virginia and Duke on Thursday and Sunday, respectively. Both games will be televised on ACC Network Extra and admission to all home games is free.
