Orange Return Home to Host Akron Tuesday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse will play a pair of home matches this week, starting Tuesday, Oct. 2 when it hosts Akron. Start time at the SU Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. Admission and parking are free of charge.

The Orange, which are coming off a 2-1 setback at Pittsburgh last Friday, enter Tuesday's match with a 5-4-2 overall record. The Zips defeated St. Mary's in double overtime last weekend to improve their record to 5-2-1 and extend their winning streak to three games.

Tuesday's game is Pink Day for the Orange and fans will receive a Breast Cancer Awareness water bottle. Those that can't make it to the SU Soccer Stadium can watch the match on ACC Network Extra. Live state will be available on Cuse.com.

ORANGE IN TIGHT GAMES
Syracuse played a number of close games this season. Overall, nine of the Orange's 11 matches in 2017 have been decided by one goal or less. Syracuse is 3-4-2 in those games.

SCOUTING THE ZIPS
Sam Gainford is Akron's leading scorer with nine points on a team-high four goals and an assist. Four others have two goals apiece. Ben Lundt has played every minute in goal for the Zips this season. He has a 0.60 goals-against average and a .792 save percentage.

Head coach Jared Embick is in his fifth year at the helm of the Akron program. He guided the Zips to the 2015 College Cup. Prior to being named head coach in 2012, Embick served as Akron's associate head coach and recruiting coordinator.

THE SERIES
Syracuse and Akron will meet for the second time on Tuesday. The Zips won the only previous meeting, 1-0, on their home pitch in 1987.
