Orange Host Media Day At Melo
10/20/2017 1:57:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The 2017-18 edition of the Syracuse men's basketball team hosted its annual media day at the Carmelo Anthony Basketball Center on Friday, Oct. 20.
The meet and greet with the media featured an opening press conference with Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim followed by media availability with the rest of the team.
Boeheim, ranked second in the Division I ranks in career victories, is in his 42nd season at the helm of his alma mater. His latest squad includes only one returning starter, sophomore guard Tyus Battle, and a number of newcomers.
In addition to Battle, junior guard Frank Howard and junior center Paschal Chukwu are returning veterans. Redshirt freshman Matt Moyer practiced with the team last year but used it as a redshirt seaons and has four campaigns of eligibility remaining.
The "new kids on the block" include graduate student Geno Thorpe, a transfer who led USF in scoring average last season. Thorpe, a guard, is joined by freshmen forwards Oshae Brissett and Marek Dolezaj, rookie guard Howard Washington, and freshman center Bourama Sidibe.
A tenth scholarship player, guard Elijah Hughes, transfered from East Carolina and will be ineligible this season. He will practice with the Orange.
Syracuse was 19-15 a season ago and earned a berth in the NIT.
