SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's soccer team closes out the 2017 regular season on the road at Virginia Tech on Thursday, Oct. 26. The Orange look to finish their season on a high note with a win over the Hokies, which would be their third conference win of the year.
LAST TIME OUT
The Orange faced a 2-0 setback against No. 4 Duke Sunday afternoon at SU Soccer Stadium. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan tallied seven saves in goal for the Orange for her ninth game with five or more saves this season.
SEASON IN REVIEW
Heading into the final game of the 2017 regular season the Orange have posted 18 goals this season, scored by eight different players. Thirteen of those 18 goals were scored in the first half of the game. Sophomore Taylor Bennett scored the lone penalty kick goal for Syracuse while 10 different players have combined for 12 assists this season. A majority of the 51 corner kicks were taken by Sydney Brackett and Jessica Vigna.
FOR THE RECORD
Brosnan is just one save away from tying the all-time record for career saves, set by Eliza Bennett-Hattan ('09) at 331. One more win will move Brosnan in to second in program history for career wins with 25. The senior also sits in third in school records for career shutouts with 18.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
The Blue Devils Hokies sit just behind the Orange in the ACC Standings, holding a 7-6-4 overall record and a 1-5-3 mark in conference play. Virginia Tech has posted three ties in ACC play this season against Pittsburgh, Boston College and No. 15 Wake Forest, while tallying a win over Notre Dame. Alani Johnson leads the Hokies with four goals and 35 shots this year.
