SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse (4-6, 2-4 ACC) travels to Kentucky to take on the Louisville Cardinals (6-4, 3-4 ACC) on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. with the game airing on ESPNU. Mark Neely (play-by-play) and Ray Bentley (analyst) on the call.
The game is the Orange's final road contest of 2017 and marks Syracuse's sixth trip to Papa John's Cardinal stadium since the building opened in 1998.
The Orange are coming off a 64-43 loss to Wake Forest, a game that featured 66 first downs and an ACC-record 1,355 yards off offense. In their last outing, the Cardinals defeated Virginia 38-21 to officially become bowl-eligible.
ORANGE FACE REIGNING HEISMAN WINNER FOR SECOND TIME
When signal-caller Lamar Jackson takes the field for Louisville, it will mark the second time the Orange have gone up against the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. Syracuse faced Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston in 2014 after he was awarded the Heisman Trophy the previous season. Winston completed 30-of-36 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-20 victory over the Orange in his post-Heisman campaign.Â
Â
It should be noted that only 27 underclassmen have won the award since it started being presented in 1935, so it's not often a team has the opportunity to face the previous season's award winner. However, it did almost happen to the Orange again in 1998. Michigan's Charles Woodson captured the Heisman as a junior in 1997, but turned pro after the season so he was not the Wolverines' roster when Syracuse defeated Michigan at "The Big House."
ISHMAEL RECORD WATCH
Newly-minted as a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award (nation's most outstanding receiver), senior Steve Ishmael is on the cusp adding his name to the Syracuse record book in three more categories.
Ishmael has 92 receptions this season for 1,131 yards. He needs three more grabs to become Syracuse's single-season catch leader. Amba Etta-Tawo set the standard a year ago with 94 receptions. In addition, Ishmael can pass legend Marvin Harrison as the program leader in career receiving yardage this weekend. Ishmael needs 54 yards to break Harrison's mark of 2,728.
One of the most consistent performers in the country, Ishmael has seven 100-yard games in 2017. With one more, he claims sole possession of first place on that 'Cuse record list as well. Ishmael is currently tied with Etta-Tawo who hit the century mark in receiving yards seven times in 2016.Â
