SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse goes for its third consecutive win to start the 2017-18 season when it hosts Texas Southern on Saturday, Nov. 18. The game, which is part of the Hoophall Miami Invitational, tips off at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.

For Starters

Junior Frank Howard scored a career-high 15 points in Syracuse's 71-62 win against Iona on Tuesday night. He was 5-for-12 from the field, including 2-for-4 from behind the 3-point line. Howard is averaging 12.0 points per game this season and leads the team with eight assists.
The Orange outrebounded Iona, 42-29. Junior Paschal Chukwu led the way with a career-high 10 rebounds. Overall, four different players recorded four or more rebounds in the victory.
Freshman Oshae Brissett has reached double figures in scoring in the first two contests of the season. After scoring 11 points in the season opener against Cornell, he posted 12 points in the win against Iona. Brissett ranks third on the team in scoring (11.5 ppg.) and rebounding (6.5 rpg.).
Syracuse and Texas Southern will meet for the second time in three years and third time overall. The Orange have won the two previous meetings between the schools.

Scouting the Tigers

Texas Southern lost at Ohio State on Thursday, 82-64, and enters Saturday's game with a 0-3 record. The Tigers will play 13 straight road games to start the season before hosting Southern on Jan. 1 in their home opener.
Texas Southern was picked to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) title in a preseason poll of the league's head coaches. The Tigers won the 2017 conference tournament for their third championship in the last four years.
Guard Demontrae Jefferson is this week's SWAC Player of the Week. He averaged 21 points and 3.5 assists in games at Gonzaga and Washington State. Jefferson leads the team in both statistical categories this season.
Mike Davis is in his sixth season at the helm of the Texas Southern program. Previously, he served as the head coach at Indiana and UAB.
