Orange Ranked #9 in Preseason Inside Lacrosse Poll

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Inside Lacrosse's Face-Off Yearbook preseason women's lacrosse poll is out and Syracuse is ranked No. 9. The Orange return four of their top five scorers and five starters on defense from last year's squad that posted a 15-7 record.

Syracuse is one of three ACC teams ranked in the top 10 in the preseason poll. North Carolina is No. 3, while Boston College is right behind at No. 4. Defending national champion Maryland took the top spot in the rankings.

Senior Riley Donahue (Camillus, N.Y.) returns after leading the team in scoring with a career-high 68 points. She also led the squad in goals (42) and assists (26). Donahue was voted to the IWLCA All-America Second Team as well as the All-ACC Second Team. Sophomore Natalie Wallon (Waxhaw, N.C.) was also selected to the IWLCA All-America squad, earning third-team honors. She recorded career highs in every statistical category in 2017. She led the team in caused turnovers (22), ranked second in draw controls (27) and was third in ground balls (39). Wallon tied for third on the team in goals (29) and finished the year with 31 points.

Head coach Gary Gait enters his 11th season at the helm of the Orange program. Syracuse made its sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season, earning the No. 6 seed.
