Brissett Making Immediate Impact
12/20/2017 10:26:00 AM | Men's Basketball
It's been a good week for Syracuse freshman Oshae Brissett. On Monday, he was named ACC Rookie of the Week after posting his fifth double-double of the season in the Orange's overtime win at Georgetown. On Tuesday, Brissett set a school record on his way to matching his career high set against the Hoyas with 25 points against Buffalo.
Â
Brissett hit all 16 of his attempts from the free throw line to establish the school record for free throw percentage (most made) in the Carrier Dome. After the Bulls got within four, 75-71, with 33 seconds remaining, Brissett scored Syracuse's final six points, all from the charity stripe, to help the Orange hold off Buffalo's late comeback attempt. But his offensive contribution wasn't limited to the free throw line.
Â
"We talked to Oshae about how this was just one of those games where you had to take it to the basket, and he just took it to the basket," head coach Jim Boeheim said after the game. "That's what I think he does best."
Â
Brissett was coming off his best overall game as a member of the Orange as he helped Syracuse overcome a 13-point second-half deficit at Georgetown. He had just one point in the first half, but scored 24 points after intermission for a career-high 25 points. Brissett also pulled down 14 rebounds in 45 minutes of action.
Â
The Mississauga, Ontario native leads the Orange and ranks sixth in the ACC in rebounding, averaging 9.5 per game. He also ranks second on the squad and 17th in the conference in scoring (15.6 ppg.).
Â
Brissett and the Orange are back in action on Friday, Dec. 22 when they host St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Tickets for all Orange home games are available online at Cuse.com, by phone at 1-888-DOMETIX or in person at Gate B at the Carrier Dome.
