Orange Move Up One Spot in Media Poll
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Redshirt freshman Mary Rahal and freshman Asa Goldstock have been recognized for their performances in Syracuse's season-opening win against No. 17 Boston College. Rahal is this week's Inside Lacrosse National Rookie of the Week, while Goldstock is the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women's Lacrosse Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Rahal contributed five points (3g, 2a) in the Orange's 18-8 victory against the Eagles on Saturday. She scored Syracuse's first goal of the season and the first of her collegiate career at the 24:38 mark of the first half, sparking the Orange on an 8-0 scoring run. She had two goals and an assist during the offensive outburst. Rahal added a goal and an assist in Syracuse's 6-0 scoring run to start the second half, which gave the Orange control of the game. She also picked up three ground balls, caused two turnovers and had a draw control against the Eagles.

Goldstock started in goal for Syracuse in the season opener and recorded 10 saves in her collegiate debut. Seven of her saves came in the second half, keeping Boston College off the scoreboard as the Orange recorded six unanswered goals to take control of the game. Goldstock held the Eagles to a single-digit goal total after they averaged 18.5 in their first two games of the season.

Syracuse moved up one spot to No. 5 in this week's Cascade Media Poll. North Carolina remained at No. 1, while Maryland stayed at No. 2. USC climbed to No. 3, while Florida fell one spot after losing to the Tar Heels.

The Orange is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they host a pair of games in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse takes on Canisius at 11 a.m. and Binghamton at 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
