SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team will kick off Atlantic Coast Conference play on Saturday at Virginia.
Syracuse will be looking for its second win of the season, after winning the season opener at Yale. Since then, the Orange have lost to Columbia, No. 24 Mississippi State and No. 13 Michigan. Two members of the Orange are currently ranked by the ITA. Valeria Salazar comes in at No. 38 in singles, while Gabriela Knutson in No. 99. The duo are No. 10 in the doubles rankings.
Virginia (1-2) opened the season with a 4-3 win against Boston College on Jan. 21, but lost both matches in last week's ITA Kickoff Weekend versus Wake Forest and LSU. The Cavaliers feature a pair of ITA-ranked players in Rosie Johanson (No. 79) and Meghan Kelley (No. 124). Virginia advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 NCAA Tournament last season, before losing, 4-2, to Vanderbilt.
The Orange faced Virginia last season in Syracuse on Feb. 21. The Cavaliers won that match, 5-2.
