Hubbard Goes Sub-4; Sellers Breaks Record in Boston
2/4/2017 5:39:00 PM | Track and Field
Another week, another sub-four minute mile for the No. 7 Syracuse track and field team.Â
One week after Adam Palamar (John Thomas Invitational) and Justyn Knight (UW Invitational) both won the mile at their respective meets and broke the four-minute barrier, Joel Hubbard made it three-for-three at the BU Scarlet and White Invitational.Â
Hubbard's mile time wasn't the only highlight as Kadejhia Sellers broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash and turned in one of the nation's fastest times in the process.
Hubbard crossed the line in 3:59.37 for the win, finishing over a second faster than 2016 NCAA Champion Henry Wynne and four seconds ahead of Georgetown's Michael Clevenger, who took third.
Hubbard was under a second off his personal-best time of 3:58.43, which he set on the same track last season.
His time is the 10th-fastest to date in the NCAAÂ this season, with Syracuse runners owning three of the top-11 times nationally in the event.
A day after setting a new personal best in the 60-meter dash, Sellers took to her natural event in the 400-meters, placing second overall in 53.39 seconds. Her time was good for second in the event and serves as the 13th-best time in the nation thus far in 2017. Cheyenne Trigg also competed in the event, taking 11th (57.89 seconds)
Richard Floyd finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.24 seconds. Mississippi State's Willie Reed earned the win in 8.01 seconds.
The 200-meters was the deepest Orange field on the day, with three competitors on the women's side. Dasia Pressley placed fifth overall (24.76 seconds), with Victoria Parker (25.37 seconds) in 16th and Justice Richardson (26.51) in 29th.
Richardson also raced in the 60-meter dash where she finished fifth, crossing the line in 7.80 seconds.
Â
The men's 200-meters saw four members of the Orange take the track. Kashif Miller (21.98 seconds)Â placed 10th. David Gilstrap (22.63 seconds), Winston Lee (22.65 seconds) and Chevis Armstead took 22nd, 24th and 26th.
Aviana Goode (1.65 meters) took fifth in the high jump while Randall Johnson (1.85 meters) placed third in the event.
Goode also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, where she crossed the line in 8.92 seconds, which was good for 12th.
Another three meets await the Orange next weekend. The Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, the David Hemrey Valentine Invitational in Boston and the Robert Kane Invitational at Cornell.
