Crittenden Kicks Off NCAA Championships Friday
3/9/2017 2:03:00 PM | Track and Field
Freddie Crittenden III (60H), Justyn Knight (3000) and Adam Palamar (mile) will represent the Orange at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend.
In the first of three event previews, take a look at the 60-meter hurdles.
Crittenden enters the weekend with the fifth-fastest time nationally, posting 7.65 (0.01 off his career best) twice while winning the ACC Indoor Championship two weeks ago.
While there has been fast competition this year, Crittenden enters the meet as the highest returning finisher from last year's event, where he was the runner up to since departed Devon Allen of Oregon. Crittenden is also undefeated this season.
Florida's Grant Holloway (7.58) has the nation's fastest time to date, followed by Youngstown State's Chad Zallow (7.61). Iowa's Aaron Mallett (7.63) and North Carolina A&T's Michael Dickson (7.63) are the only two other competitors ahead of Crittenden this season.
The last time Crittenden has faced any competitor in this year's field head-to-head was at the NACAC U23 Championships in San Salvador, where he edged Mallett in the 110-meter hurdles.
Crittenden and Mallett are the only returners from last year's NCAA Indoor Championships final as well.
The semifinals get underway at 7:50 p.m. eastern on ESPN3.
