
Track Opens 2017 With Two Big Meets

The Syracuse track and field teams will compete in their first outdoor meets of the season this upcoming weekend with distance runners heading to the Stanford Invitational and sprinters going to the Florida Relays. The meets are the first outdoor events of 2017.
The men's team had three athletes qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships this season, with all three members finishing in the top-five of their events. Adam Palamar finished fifth in the mile and both Freddie Crittenden III and Justyn Knight took home silver medals in their respective events.  The men's team collected 20 points and finished 10th at the NCAA Championship, both bests in program history. After the event, Justyn Knight was named ACC Indoor Track Performer of the Year.

Last year at the Stanford Invite:
At the ACC Indoor Championships, the last large team event for the Orange prior to the three NCAA Championship entries, Justyn Knight won the 5000-meters and 3000-meters for the second-straight year. Paige Stoner also saw success in the 5k, setting a school record and earning a bronze medal. Freddie Crittenden III took first and set a season-best mark in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 7.65 seconds, which is just .01 away from this career best. Kadejhia Sellers took 3rd place in the 400m event, recording the fifth-fastest time in the event to move on to the finals.

Last year at the Stanford Invite:
- Former Orange Shaylyn Tuite finished second in the section two of the women's 10k, with a career-best time of 33:22.04, third-fastest time in program history. After completing this race, Tuite was named ACC Performer of the Week.
- Fellow alum Margo Malone completed the 10k in 33:55.93, taking 23rd overall in section one.
- For the men's team, Philo Germano raced to a personal-best time of 29:04.60 in the 10k taking 6th place overall, with Dan Lennon following closely behind, earning a 16th place spot by crossing the finish line at 29:16.13. Kevyn Hoyos also ran the 10k, finishing in 29:39.85.
- In the 5k, Adam Palamar finished in 11th place in section one of the event, racing to a time of 13:59.03. In section two of the race, Mickey Burke placed 15th with a time of 14:15.81 and Nick Ryan took 21st place with a time of 14:36.63.
- Paul Lovell will get things underway for the Orange, competing in the men's 800 meter event.
- Aidan Tooker and Adam Visokay are two of 44 runners scheduled to participate in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase. Tooker is also slated to compete in the 5000 meters on the initial entry forms.
- Iliass Aouani will run either the 5000 meters or 10k.
- Also competing in the men's 10k is Colin Bennie, Philo Germano, Dominic Hockenbury, Kevin James and possibly Visokay.
- Sydney Leiher will represent the women's team in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
- Freddie Crittenden finished eighth overall in the 110-meter hurdles, third among collegiate competitors.
- Crittenden III gets to avenge this year's runner-up performance at indoors right away, with Grant Holloway also set to compete in the 110-meter hurdles this weekend.
- Aviana Goode, Regine Hunter and Victoria Parker will start things off for the Orange, scheduled to compete in the 200-meters. The men's team will be represented in this event by Kashif Miller.
- Ebhani Blackwood is lined up to participate in the 400 meter event for the women, with Pascal Bastien running for the men.
- The 400 meter hurdles and 100 meter hurdles will feature Danielle Delgado.
- For the women's team, Dasia Pressley will run the 100 meter dash.
- Kadejhia Sellers is scheduled to participate in the 400 meter event.
