Hawryschuk Earns Inside Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Freshman Emily Hawryschuk earned national Rookie of the Week honors from Inside Lacrosse after a tremendous performance in a 12-11 overtime win against No. 20 Virginia Tech on Sunday, April 9.

Hawryschuk recorded a career-high five goals along with an assist and added on two more career-highs with four groundballs and two caused turnovers against the Hokies. The Orange were tied 9-9 in the second half when she scored back-to-back goals to put the squad ahead for the first time since the 8:00 mark of the first half. Virginia Tech tied the game with four seconds remaining in regulation, but Syracuse scored 1:23 into overtime for the victory.

This season, Hawryschuk ranks second on the team in goals (27) and third in points (32). She has scored three or more goals in a game six times.

Hawryschuk and the No. 12/11 Orange head to Chapel Hill to face second-ranked and defending national champion North Carolina on Saturday, April 15 at 12:00 p.m.
