Three-game series set at Skytop
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse (27-18, 7-10 ACC) closes out Atlantic Coast Conference regular season play this weekend when it hosts Virginia Tech (19-31, 5-16 ACC) for a three-game series at Skytop Softball Stadium. Live stats will be available for all three games.
The weekend will celebrate all Syracuse softball alumni, as Athletic Director John Wildhack will throw the first pitch on Friday and Saturday is Syracuse softball's annual Bark in the Park event, welcoming all dogs to the stadium. Sunday is senior day, celebrating the pair of Sydney O'Hara and Alyssa Dewes.
The Orange will end regular season play on Tuesday, May 2, when it hosts in-state foe Cornell for a non-conference game beginning at 3:15 p.m.
Syracuse and Virginia Tech meet for the 17th, 18th and 19th time this weekend, as the Orange own a 9-7 all-time series advantage over the Hokies. Despite the historical lead, VT has won the last four meetings, including a three-game series in Blacksburg, Virginia, last year and a matchup in the ACC Tournament in 2014. Over the four most recent games, the Hokies have outscored the Orange, 24-6, while shutting out SU in the two most recent contests.
When playing on its home field, Syracuse is 6-1 against Virginia Tech. The pair first met in 2001 at VT's home field, where the Hokies claimed the inaugural meeting, 5-4. 'Cuse went on to win eight of the next nine meetings through a contest on April 26, 2014. Since that date, VT is 5-1 against the Orange.
Last season, Virginia Tech was 29-28 overall and 13-11 in conference play. The Hokies earned a bid to the ACC Tournament, but dropped the first-round game to Notre Dame, 5-4, to be eliminated from the tournament. Prior to the post-season, VT finished the regular season with a five-game win streak. They head to Syracuse with a 4-3 record dating back to April 18.
