Orange Begins ACC Championship Action on Friday

The Syracuse track and field teams will begin the ACC Championships on Friday at Georgia Tech with the action to be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
ORANGE IN THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIPÂ
-Â With four school records already falling in the outdoor season, the Syracuse men's and women's track and field teams are looking to continue success into the postseason.
-Â In the last-two seasons, Syracuse has won a pair of ACC Cross Country Championships and an ACC Indoor Championship on the men's side and is looking for the sweep.
-Â The event will run from Friday to Sunday at the George C. Griffin Track and Field Complex after spending the previous two years at Florida State.
LAST YEAR AT THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
-Â The men's team finished ninth, while the women took 11th.
-Â Freddie Crittenden III was the Orange's lone ACC Champion, cruising to a win in the 110-meter hurdles by a full 0.25 seconds. Teammates Richard Floyd and David Gilstrap also turned in top-five finishes at the event.Â
-Â Justyn Knight finished third in the 10k, while Adam Palamar and Joel Hubbard took third and fourth in the 1500 and Winston Lee finished seventh in the 100 to round out scoring performances.Â
- Departed seniors Margo Malone and Shaina Harrison turned in the podium finishes for the Orange, with Malone taking third in the 5k and second in the 10k, while Harrison was runner-up in the 100. Tia Thevenin is one of the Orange's top returners from last year's meet, finishing 0.04 seconds outside of the final in the 100-meter hurdles.
WORLD LEADERS
-Â Two members of the Orange currently rank in the top-10 of the world in their respective events.Â
- At the Payton Jordan Invitational, Justyn Knight turned in the world's fastest 5k and fourth- best collegiate 5k time ever.
- Freddie Crittenden III turned in what at the time was the second-best mark in the world, which now stands 10th in the 110-meter hurdles at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invite.

- Knight shattered his own school record by 10 seconds when he crossed the line in 13:17.51 on Friday night, which also bested the ACC record that had stood for 33 years in the process.
-Â Knight's time is the fourth-fastest collegiate time ever and best since 2013.
-Â His mark is the best in the world at the moment and he obtained the world-standard mark, which would allow him to qualify for the IAAF World Championships in London this summer.

-Â Crittenden's time beat out 2012 NCAA Indoor Champion Jarret Eaton's 2012 school record by 0.02 seconds when he finished in 13.42 seconds.
-Â Crittenden's time is also a world-standard mark, meaning he could also qualify for the IAAF World Championships in London.
-Â His time is the 10th best in the world at present, third among American competitors.
INDIVIDUAL RANKS
-Â Justyn Knight enters as the highest-ranked male performer for the Orange. He has the nation's fastest time in the 5000-meters (13:17.51). Knight also owns the fastest mark in the ACC this season in the 1500-meters (3:42.11) in an event he likely won't compete in at ACCs.
-Â Freddie Crittenden III is also one of the top-five performers in the nation in his event, ranked second in the 110-meter hurdles (13.42). He leads the ACC in that mark.
- Adam Palamar ranks third in the ACC in the 1500 (3:42.70)
-Â Aidan Tooker has the second-best time in the 3000-meter steeplechase (8:54.01)
-Â Kadejhia Sellers leads the way for the women's team, owning the third-best mark in the 400-meter dash (52.88).
