SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the second straight season, the No. 12 Syracuse women's rowing team will participate in its annual national championship regatta when it heads to the 2017 NCAA Championship on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
Syracuse will hit the water for the first time on Friday morning at 9:24 a.m. when the 14th-seeded first varsity eight crew competes in its heat. The Orange second varsity eight boat, the ninth overall seed, will race at 10 a.m., while the 15th-seeded first varsity four will begin at 10:48 a.m.
The top two finishers from each heat will advance to the A/B semifinals, while the remaining crews will run the course again in the afternoon repechages. The top two crews from the repechages will also move on to the A/B semifinals with a chance remaining at a national title.
The semifinals will be held on Saturday morning and the annual event will conclude on Sunday morning with the finals.
Last year, Syracuse placed 13th overall at the 2016 NCAA Championship on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., fueled by a 12th-place showing from the first varsity eight boat. Seniors Shannon McCann and Harriet Taylor, junior Ashley Johnson, and sophomores Rachael Caldwell and Arianna Lee all rowed in the top Orange crew.
