Preview Thursday's NCAA East Prelim Action

Six Orange begin their quest for Eugene on Thursday
Six of the 13 members of the Orange who'll be competing in Lexington, Kentucky this weekend to try to punch their ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will get their meets underway on Thursday night. Here's a preview of Thursday's action:

Women's 400H (4:30 p.m.)
- Danielle Delgado enters the race with the 23rd best seed time (58.50).
- She set her seed time of 58.50 at the ACC Championships - which was a personal best time for her – while going on to finish fourth in the event.
- Tyler Brockington of South Carolina is the top seed in the event, as the only runner below the 56 second mark.
- Six heats will take to the track this afternoon in the event, with Delgado racing in heat two. The top-three from each heat, plus the next-six best times will advance to the quarterfinal race.
Men's 1500m (6 p.m.)
- Adam Palamar, who finished fifth at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the mile, is looking for another All-American performance this outdoor season and enters the East Preliminary Round with the eighth-fastest seed time.
- He set his mark of 3:42.70 at the Payton Jordan Invitational earlier this month. Most recently, he finished fourth at the ACC Championships in the event.
- Craig Engels from Ole Miss is the top-seed in the event this weekend by nearly four seconds (3:37.75), with Virginia's Henry Wynne (3:42.60) as the only ACC opponent faster than Palamar this season ranked seventh.
- The 1500 will be raced in four heats of 12. The top-five runners from each heat plus the next four fastest times will advance to Saturday's quarterfinal race. Palamar will run in heat three, with the second-fastest time in the heat behind Engels.
Women's 400m (7:20 p.m.)
- Kadejhia Sellers will represent 'Cuse in the 400, with a seed time of 52.88 seconds. That mark is a school record and came at the Georgia Tech Invitational earlier this season. She went on to post the sixth-best time at the ACC Championship in the prelims before pulling out of the final.
- Her time ranks as the 17th-best in the east this season.
- Miami owns the three-fastest seeds, with Shakima Wimbley leading the east with a mark of 50.40.
- The 400 will be fun in six heats, with the top-three from each heat plus the next-six best times combined advancing to the quarterfinal. Sellers will run in heat six.
Women's 10k (9 p.m.)
- Shannon Malone is Syracuse's representative in the women's 10k.
- Malone has the 41st-best seed time in the meet (34:49.19), a mark she set during a fourth-place finish at the ACC Championships two weeks ago.
- That time is a personal best for her.
- The 10k is one semifinal race, with the top-12 finishers advancing to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
Men's 10k (9:40 p.m.)
- Colin Bennie and Philo Germano, who've both earned All-America honors previously, will represent 'Cuse in the 10k semifinal.
- Bennie (29:20.56) and Germano (29:22.10), own the 19th and 20th-best seed times in the east entering the meet. Alfred Chelenga of Alabama has the best mark of 28:04.95 heading into the meet.
- Germano is coming off his first podium finish at the ACC Championships, where he took second.
- Bennie placed sixth in the meet.
- The 10k is one semifinal race, with the top-12 finishers advancing to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
