8/12/2017 3:52:00 PM | Track and Field
Syracuse track and field standout Justyn Knight finished 9th at the IAAF World Championship in the 5000-meters on Saturday.
The 'Cuse star hung tight in the pack for the entirety of the race with the best the world has to offer, before closing in ninth with a time of 13:39.15.
Ethiopia's Muktar Edris took gold in 13:32.22, followed by Great Britain's Mo Farah in 13:33.22 in silver. Paul Chelimo of the United States finished with bronze in 13:33.30.
Â
Knight will now set his sights on the 2017 cross country season. The NCAA runner-up in the event in 2016, Knight heads into his senior campaign coming off a top-three finish at nationals in both indoor and outdoor track as well.
After sweeping USTFCCCA Northeast Region Performer of the Year honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track, Knight looks to add to his trophy count this season. He already has an NCAA team cross country championship, seven All-America nods, seven ACC individual titles, four ACC team championships and three NCAA Northeast Region cross country team crowns (two individual NCAA region championships as well) between his cross country and track exploits.
Â
Majoring in social work at the David B. Falk college, Knight is also the two-time defending Syracuse Male Athlete of the Year at the 'Cuse Awards as well.
