'Cuse Visits Army West Point for Road Contest

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's soccer team hits the road for its second away game of the season at Army West Point at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The Orange are coming off a 1-1 tie at home against No. 14 Connecticut in a game that went to double overtime.
Last Time Out
Syracuse battled No. 14 Connecticut to a double overtime tie on Monday in the Orange's home opener. Alex Lamontagne picked up her first goal of the season after getting her own rebound and drilling it past the keeper in the 74th minute of the game. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan made nine saves on the night, moving into third place in program history for career saves with 255.
Taking Shots, Making Saves
Through two games, 'Cuse is averaging 16.5 shots per game while limiting the opponent to just 11.5 shots per match. The Orange have notched 33 shots this season, good for fifth in the ACC. Sydney Brackett paces the team in shots with eight over the course of two games.
Brosnan leads the ACC in saves with 13 and averages 6.5 stops per game. The senior sits in sixth in the ACC for save percentage at .929, allowing just one goal so far this season.
From the Corner
The Orange have posted eight corner kicks this season, putting them on pace for 76 corners by the end of the year, three more than the team recorded in 2016 (73). Syracuse sits tied for 10th in the ACC for corners while Virginia Tech leads the conference with 29.
Scouting the Black Knights
The two teams meet for just the fifth time in program history with each school holding a pair of wins. The Orange came out on top in the most recent meeting, posting a 1-0 victory over the Black Knights in August of last year. Current senior Eva Gordon scored the only goal of the game off a corner kick with assists from Sheridan Street and Taylor Bennett.
Army is coming off a 0-0 tie with UMass Lowell and holds a 1-0-1 record on the season with the only goal coming from Lauryn Westman. Freshman Sydney Cassalia has started both games for the Black Knights, recording three saves on 13 shots faced and posting two shutouts.
