ST. LOUIS – Syracuse travels to the Midwest to kick off the 2017 season this weekend. The Orange take on Saint Louis on Friday, Aug. 25 at 8:30 p.m. in the season opener before traveling across the Mississippi River to face SIU Edwardsville on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. Syracuse begins the season ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.

ORANGE IN SEASON OPENERS
Syracuse is 42-35-5 all-time in season-opening games and has won its first game of the season in eight of the last 12 years. Head coach Ian McIntyre is 11-5-2 all-time in season openers during his head coaching career, including a 4-3 mark at Syracuse.

SYRACUSE IN THE PRESEASON
The Orange played three exhibition games in preparation for the 2017 season. Syracuse defeated Hartwick, 3-0, and tied Villanova, 1-1, at the SU Soccer Stadium. In their final warm up before the season opener, the Orange lost at Maryland, 3-0. Junior Kamal Miller (Pickering, Ontario) recorded two goals and an assist in the three matches.

SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS
Saint Louis finished last season with a record of 7-8-3 record. The Billikens won the Atlantic 10 regular-season title with a 6-2 mark in conference play.

Sophomore Saadiq Mohammed is the leading returning scorer for Saint Louis. He had three goals last season. He was a member of the A-10 All-Rookie team, as was Quayyum Murana. Senior goalkeeper Sascha Otte is among the active NCAA leaders in shutouts with 20. Last season he posted a 1.28 goals-against average and a .766 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
SIUE posted a record of 10-5-7 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 a year ago. The Cougars will play in the Mid-American Conference for the first time this season.

Senior Devyn Jambga returns after leading SIUE in scoring last season with 15 points on six goals and three assists. The Cougars return three of their top five scorers from last season. Senior goalkeeper Kyle Dal Santo played every minute in goal for SIUE last season. He recorded a 0.71 goals-against average and a .838 save percentage.

Syracuse will meet Saint Louis and SIU Edwardsville for the first time this weekend.

The Orange will host the Central New York Classic next weekend at the SU Soccer Stadium. Syracuse hosts Princeton on Friday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. and Northwestern on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
